Zack Snyder Will Direct Superman

The Watchmen helmer is getting to grips with The Man Of Steel... Tuesday, October 5th 2010 | 11:24:35

It seems that Zack Snyder's good work on the likes of Watchmen and 300 amongst others is proof enough to Warner Bros. that he can handle one of their most precious commodities, Superman.

That's right folks, the fella who gave us 18-rated superheroes and badass Spartans has been tasked with bringing The Man Of Steel back from the dead. The Legend Of The Guardians - The Owls of Ga'Hoole helmer will join executive producer Christopher Nolan and screenwriter David S. Goyer in bringing their collective 21st-Century vision to the big screen.

"It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern," Snyder told Deadline. "I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it."

Talking to Heat Vision Blog about Nolan, he continued: "In the initial meetings, he's been super amazingly smart and also amazingly kind, filmmaker-to-filmmaker. I have great respect for him. The process has been amazing so far, and it looks like nothing but pluses.”

Snyder's hiring brings to an end a search that has seen the likes of Ben Affleck, Robert Zemeckis and Tony Scott mooted as possible directors. Now all that remains is to find the man who will fill Superman's red boots (any suggestions?).

If Snyder's casting wasn't exciting enough, it turns out the plotline will involve the return of Supes' dealiest on-screen foe, General Zod. Originally played by Terence Stamp in Superman II. We can't wait to "kneel before" him once again.

So what do you think of Snyder's casting? Who do you think should play Superman? How do you feel about General Zod's return? Let us know what you think folks...
