Following the filming delays with Mad Max IV: Fury Road due to unseasonal weather conditions, Tom Hardy, who is stepping into Mel Gibson's worn shoes in the Australian outback, has already been scooped up to star in Batman 3, Deadline reports. After his impressive turn in Christopher Nolan's summer blockbuster Inception, the two will reunite for the follow up to the The Dark Knight (which sees Nolan in the producer's chair), though Hardy's role has not been revealed... Let the speculation begin!
The assumption is that he will be playing a villain and judging from his critically acclaimed performance as the lead in 2008’s Bronson he can pull off deranged and villainous easily. The Riddler is a name that frequently comes up when talking about the next villain but there are many others he could be playing, such as Clayface, Bane and Black Mask. The ones we can rule out are the Penguin and Mr Freeze as Nolan has already said they would not appear in his films.
Recently Hardy has been shooting Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy for Tomas Alfredson and is also attached to This Means War with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine.
