Super 8 Gets A Super Bowl TV Spot

Super 8 holds on to its secrets as a new teaser shows first footage from the film but little else... Monday, February 7th 2011 | 17:30:07

Paramount finally aired the teaser of Super 8, at last night’s Super Bowl. The movie directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg (now there’s a dream team if ever we saw one) has - except for one annoyingly short and uninformative trailer, and a whole bunch of viral sites) been kept top secret up until now with almost every detail kept firmly under wraps or slowly and unbearbly teased. The new film by the director of Star Trek and creator of Lost looks to be a subtle blend of sci-fi horror and coming of age heart-warmer but Abrams - the mastermind behind the gradual reveal that was Cloverfield - remains very coy and secretive about Super 8 but has recently (and apparently, reluctantly) spilled at least some of the beans about the film to the LA Times. This we know: the title refers to the Super 8 camera that six youths, (one of whom is played by Elle Fanning, star of recent hit Somewhere) use to make their own zombie movie in 1979 Ohio; as part of this project, the group witness and film a train derailment on some deserted railway tracks, but they capture more than they could ever have bargained for, something inhuman and terrifying. Now, we're not going to be so reckless as to over-commit this early and start speculating on what it might be... will you?
