Russell Brand To Be Hawkwood

Say what you like about him, the man is doing well for himself. Russell Brand - not so long ago a villain in the British Press for a certain Sachsgate incident - is now the darling of Hollywood, and according to Deadline, he has just persuaded Fox to make another film for him, called Hawkwood.

Currently involved in a re-make of Arthur and hot on the heels of the hilarious Get Him to the Greek, Brand pitched the idea to the company, who promptly hired Jared Stern to write the script.

John Hawkwood was a mercenary soldier who was hired to lead several European armies in the 1400's including Italy and France. He also - and this is where Brand fits the role perfectly - had few morals, and was never far from controversy and debauchery.
