Russell Brand Resurrecting Rentaghost

The British comedy series is getting a ‘Brand’ new makeover Friday, December 10th 2010 | 11:42:39

Roguish comedian turned actor Russell Brand is again displaying his quirky taste/lack of discretion with a commitment to remake the 70s comedy series Rentaghost. Warner Bros have already acquired the rights to the show and Brand is down to executive produce and star.

Some will recall (possibly fondly) the TV show about the agency for oddball spooks, ghouls, witches and other supernatural types which ran for nine series on BBC1, from 1976 and 1984. According to Empire, Brand would play Fred Mumford, a recently deceased slacker who is determined to be more productive as a corpse in the afterlife and thus naturally starts up a temp agency for the dead. Mumford and his ghoulish friends rent out ghosts to the living, until things fail to go according to plan.

Apparently producers Gail Braun, Lloyd Braun and Kevin McCormickk are looking for writers to develop that special tone of script… somewhere between Gremlins and Beetle Juice, a bit different from the pantomime style the original Bob Block series played on.

Brand will soon be appearing opposite Helen Mirren in The Tempest, and in spring he’ll be with us as the Easter Bunny in Hop… hopefully proving his versatility as an actor. As for Rentaghost we're sure Brand will breath some life into those ghouls.
