Variety have announced that the comedian-come-actor Ricky Gervais will voice the main character of Mole in a new adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows.
Directed by Ray Griggs and written by Bill Marsilii (the writer of Déjà Vu - a contrasting project if ever there was one) the film will focus on Gervais’ character. Griggs told Variety this week that he’d had Ricky in mind for the role from the very inception of the project. “It’s a natural fit to have an iconic British actor star in an iconic British tale.”
The story will see Mole, Rat, Badger, and Toad come together again to save their land from a sinister plot that threatens to destroy the troubled truce between the animals of the Willows and Mankind.
The producers have big plans for the film with a 30 million dollar budget which will pay - in part - for special effects fromPeter Jackson's Weta Workshop, the mastermind behind the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and a release date scheduled for 2012.
In the mean time, Griggs and his creative team have debuted a teaser trailer on the film's official website... let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
