The first full trailer of Rango has been released by Paramount Pictures, showcasing Johnny Depp as a household chameleon lost in the wilds. Opening with an introduction from a group of morbid Mexican birds who sing about how hard it is to survive in the desert, the promo video moves on to show Rango on his journey to discover his true self.
We ascertain from the trailer that the poor little critter is not only dealing with being a fish out of water, but also contends with a bigger identity crisis. We're told (again, by those optimistic birds) that he has failed to adapt to his surroundings and will therefore be eaten. The pet embarks on a journey of self-discovery taking place in the western town of Dirt. Along the way, he encounters Mojave Desert's locals and is forced to blend in if he wants stand any chance of surviving.
Directed by Gore Verbinski, Rango uses ILM technology to "capture and translate every aspect of [Johnny's] performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature." Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin and Bill Nighy are among the impressive voice cast ensemble and Paramount is set to release the animation next spring. We absolutely cannot wait. Check out the trailer below and tell us if it doesn't look like a fairly amazing movie...
