Olivia Thirlby To Be Judge Anderson

A new Judge Dredd adaptation is in the pipeline, and it looks like Karl Urban is set to step into Sylvester Stallone's boots as Dredd himself with the lovely Olivia Thirlby alongside him as Judge Anderson.

With the project helmed by Pete Travis and scripted by The Beach's Alex Garland, we should be getting something darker a little more faithful to the comic series than the cartoonish 90s offering, about the menacing and helmeted dystopian law-enforcer.

Slashfilm cites an early script review which describes the adaptation as a dark and gritty film with fantastic pace, portraying an unpleasant and crime ridden future in which twelve serious crimes are reported every minute. Thirlby should be a real asset to the cast and make the role of telepathic rookie Anderson something more than just entertaining eye-candy.

We'll be hearing more casting news shortly, with filming set to start in South Africa before the end of the year.
