According to Deadline, the talented director/producer/writer Matthew Vaughn, who has just finished filming X-Men: First Class, is set to develop an adaptation of the famous Golden Age comic books of the 1930s. The film will be based on a comic book yet to be published, by Britain’s favourite chat show host and self-confessed comics buff Jonathan Ross, and American illustrator Tommy Lee Edwards. This isn't the first time that Ross and Vaughn will cross paths - Ross's wife Jane Goldman wrote Kick-Ass and Stardust with Vaughn, who also directed both films. The comic is Ross and Edward's follow-up from Turf and takes a similar approach to the Watchmen/Red comics, in that the story will follow retired heroes, who, having lived in a home, will return to their duties to help out their grandchildren when their kids run wild and threaten to screw up the planet. Rumoured to be cast for some of the leading roles are the likes of Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty. It seems that people are warming to the idea of Superheroes being slightly older, with both the The A-Team and The Expendables having box office success last year. Vaughn may choose to step back and produce this one rather than direct. Either way, with films like Snatch, Layer Cake, and The Debt on his CV, we think this will be unmissable.
