L.A, Boston, New York and AFI Give Their Top Picks Of 2010

And they've all gone Facebook mad Monday, December 13th 2010 | 12:22:19

If there’s a best of 2010 film list without The Social Network on it we’re yet to see it. David Fincher and 'the facebook film' received high accolades over the weekend with New York, Boston and Los Angeles critics groups all naming it Best Picture of 2010, as well a mention in AFI’s top 10. Whilst other favourites such as The King's Speech and Black Swan are still jostling for their positions The Social Network seems to have secured its place as the film to beat this awards season.

The New York Film critics named David Fincher as Best Director and the film’s Aaron Sorkin for Best Screenplay. Although not quite as prestigious, Black Swan rivalled the number of nods from New York (3) with Best Actress for Natalie Portman as well as best cinematography and score. Boston too named Portman as best actress for her turn as the unhinged ballerina, whereas the best actor category saw no overlap; N.Y went for James Franco and his portrayal of the trapped climber in 127 Hours, in L.A Colin Firth impressed as the stuttering King George and for Boston Jesse Eisenberg was unbeatable as the socially inhibited facebook founder.

Other recurring names include Olivier Assayas and his 5 hour long feature Carlos, Toy Story 3 and Cohen brothers western True Grit. The New York Critics Circle will add their picks today, and though we hate to spoil the surprise  they all picked the Oscar winner The Hurt Locker last year..
