In one of the more intriguing news stories to come our way recently, we're hearing from those fine folks over at Heat Vision that director Brad Bird is in line to direct Mission: Impossible 4.
The genius who gave us the animated gems that are The Incredibles, Ratatouille and The Iron Giant is reportedly taking over the Tom Cruise-led franchise from previous megaphone wielder J.J. Abrams.
Bird has apparently emerged as the top contender for the job (in a list that included Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer and our very own Edgar Wright) and, if he gets the job, it will mark his first move into live action. What's more, it could be just the push he needs to get his long-gestating San Fransisco earthquake drama, 1906, off the ground.
As for what we can expect from M:I 4, all we know so far is that Cruise and Abrams have developed "a really cool idea", so we guess we'll have to see how that pans out.
