Idris Elba Is The Next Alex Cross
Move over Morgan Freeman, the Brit has arrived...

Idris Elba has one of the coolest names. It's probably not for that reason he's doing so well at the moment, but it has to be a factor. According to Deadline, he is to play the lead in Cross, the latest installment to be adapted from James Patterson's Dr. Alex Cross saga.
Originally played by Morgan Freeman in the two previous films made about the character, in 1997's Kiss The Girls and 2001's Along Came A Spider, it is thought that David Twohy, who is directing, desired a younger lead than Freeman so that he could put the 'action' back into 'action hero'.
The novel that the film is based on follows Dr. Cross as he tracks a serial rapist whom he suspects of killing his pregnant wife years before. Twohy is re-working the original script by Kerry Williamson, and it will be produced by Lloyd Levin, Belle Avery, Steve Bowen and Patterson himself.
Elba seems to be climbing ever higher into the upper-echelons of Hollywood. Having made his name in the HBO series The Wire, he has also appeared in RocknRolla, American Gangster, Obsessed and The Losers. He is also due to appear in Takers and the eagerly anticipated Thor. It's always nice to see a Brit doing so well over the pond, so hat's off to you, sir.
