Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are both on the ticket for an upcoming comedy from director Jay Roach (Recount) and writer Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) about two rival candidates in the 2012 US presidential elections, and guess what, its release will be timed to coincide with the 2012 US presidential elections.
The filmmakers are clearly hoping that the next presidential race will be nowhere near as exciting as the last where the Hillary Clinton/Barack Obama fight for the democratic nomination was only a warm-up for the main rumble against old-timer John McCain and his comedy sidekick plucked from Alaskan obscurity, Sarah Palin, and will need a bit of livening up with Ferrell and Galifianakis's proven comedy mettle.
While Galifianakis has only recently become a name that sells movies (with The Hangover and Due Date in the bag as well as a hit HBO series Bored To Death (Bored To Death)) Will Ferrell has been packing 'em in for years with Talladega Nights, Anchorman, The Other Guys and this week's big release Megamind just a handful of his hits. Ferrell also has track history playing presidents having plauyed George W. Bush in countless skits on TV's Saturday Night Live throughout the noughties.
We think Galifianakis plays straight funnier than anyone and will be the perfect foil for Ferrell in a film that looks set to be pretty silly, incredibly quotable and desperately funny. Do you agree with us? Let us know in the comments box below.
