Dwayne Johnson Is Off To The Center Of The Earth

There once was a time when it looked like Dwayne Johnson was destined to be the natural successor to Arnold Schwarzenegger's action man crown but, after a series of dodgy family movies and some not-so-smart thrillers, he's more likely to be the new Brendan Fraser - especially when you consider that his next movie will be a sequel to a Fraser movie.

According to Heat Vision, the former Rock will be taking on the lead role in the follow up to Journey To The Center Of The Earth after Fraser dropped out. Johnson will now be playing the step-father to returning star Josh Hutcherson and will join the lad on a trip to a mysterious island in order to track down his missing grandfather.

Filiming on the 3D movie is set to get rolling as soon as some more key characters are cast. In the meantime, we have to hope that Johnson will keep the family fare to a minimum and stick to the action stuff he's really good at - if it weren't for the likes of Faster, we'd really start to get worried.
