It has been reported that Cillian Murphy has joined the cast for Buried director Rodrigo Cortés’ latest thriller, Red Lights.
With Sigourney Weaver and Robert De Niro already cast there is some impressive talent involved, and as Cortes’ Buried was an effective, claustrophobic thriller, there are high hopes for this new project.
The story of Red Lights follows Weaver’s Margaret Matheson, ‘a para-psychologist who attempts to debunk a very reputable psychic (De Niro) who has just returned to the limelight after 30 years’. Sounds intriguing but unfortunately doesn’t give any clues to what role Murphy will play. Rumour has it that Matheson will have an assistant so that could possibly be the role Murphy has filled.
Cortez has described the premise of this film as ‘how the brain does not give a true picture of reality’, which certainly sounds compelling and is a concept often hinted at but rarely approached head on so it will be interesting to see how he develops this idea.
Murphy is currently filming the sci-fi thriller NOW along with other projects including Hippie Hippie Shake.
