British Actor Pete Postlethwaite dies aged 64

Journalist and friend Andrew Richardson has reported that actor Pete Postlethwaite has died in hospital in Shropshire after a lengthy battle with cancer.

An OBE winner in 2004, Postlethwaite appeared in a wide number of films, some of his most notable being The Usual Suspects, Romeo + Juliet and Brassed Off as well as his last film Inception, released just this year.

Starting out as a drama teacher, he moved on to the stage and performed with the Bristol Old Vic Drama School, Liverpool Everyman, Machester Royal Exchange and Royal Shakespeare Company. Then after a number of appearances in TV movies and shows, he made his was into Hollywood films.

He was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 for his performance in In the Name of the Father and Steven Spielberg described him as 'the best actor in the World' after working with him on The Lost World: Jurassic Park. He was also well know for his appearances alongside Sean Bean in the popular ITV series Sharpe in which he played Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill. He described to as one of his favourite roles due to his and Bean's friendship.

Managing to keep a low profile and living quietly in England, he was a rare talent and will be sadly missed and is survived by his two children and wife.
